My name is Lindsey Waugh and I have over 20 years of teaching and consultancy experience in both mainstream and special schools.
I began my teaching career in special needs schools as a Physical Education Teacher, supporting all children who had varying needs for support, to achieve theirs goals. This ignited my passion for wanting to expand this knowledge further and provide support within mainstream schools at both primary and secondary level.
Whilst working as a SENCO has given me the experience an knowledge to support in the application for an EHCP and tribunal process. I then became the Head of 3 specialist provisions, 2 of which I set up from scratch. This included classroom design, financial bidding and forecasting, recruitment, pupil consultation and curriculum design.
As a result of this I as then requested by the local authority to complete work as a SEND consultant. To aid support for educational professionals and young people who found the constraints of the mainstream classroom challenging. Working with a wide range of pupils including high level need, behaviours that challenge and those at risk of exclusion. Support included adapting the environment, providing additional staff training and support change of placement requests if required.
My experience and support I have offered previously within SEN are: Autism, ADHD, PDA, Social, Emotional and Mental health and related behaviour challenges, Dyslexia, Sensory Processing Disorder. I have also experience in working alongside pupils with severe, profound and multiple learning disabilities and in complex medical needs.
I have supported students, their family members, carers and teachers to gain access to services and to overcome everyday challenges through coaching and mentoring.
I have a wide range of experience including the EHCP (then Statement of SEN) process, tribunal, benefits claims, social care, CAMHS and transition to adulthood. I believe this shows that I have the knowledge and skills in supporting a wide range of people. I am also currently undertaking training with IPSEA in SEN Law Level 1 to Level 3.
Whether you are someone with a specific learning difficulty, a parent looking for support or advice for your child or for yourself; a school, employer or care provider, I hope that you will find a service that I offer to meet your requirements.
